In May of 2011, I decided to learn how to play golf to spend more time with a boyfriend. I birdied my first hole and that was it, a new found passion. My current USGA index is 9.1 and I play or practice at every opportunity.

The game appeals to me in three ways. First, it's an extension of my physical conditioning and long hours spent in the gym. Secondly, I find a very strong spiritual component which came as quite a surprise. There's more to it than "chasing a little white ball", and Michael Murphy, one of the founders of the Esalen Institute (where I've received some of my massage and bodywork training) has written a book which touches upon this, "Golf In The Kingdom". The third and most attractive aspect, is the mental component of the game. To be able to control oneself when things are going well or poorly, to "keep it together" is something that I find extremely challenging, and also the most rewarding and influential outside of the game.
